"Tummy Tuck" (abdominoplasty)

The two C-sections that gave Maria Wyatt her beautiful daughters also gave her scars, stretch marks and severely weakened abdominal muscles.

Last year, the 31-year-old Margate mom decided to do something about it.
"I was really discouraged. I had bulges above and below the waist. Exercise didn't help. Nothing fit." she says. "I found Dr. Levens in the Yellow Pages and called. The office was closed but his assistant, Diana, answered and spent 20 minutes talking with me about tummy tucks.

"Then I had a free consultation with Dr. Levens and felt an immediate connection - I knew he was the one I wanted to perform the surgery. I usually shop around for something this important, not for price but for quality. But after seeing his credentials and doing some research on the Internet, I didn't need to go anyplace else."

Dr. Levens performed a traditional abdominoplasty on Maria. He placed incisions low on her abdomen to conceal them. Skin and fat were lifted off the underlying musculature of the abdomen. Maria's fascia (the tissue that

interconnects the muscles) was stretched, so he tightened it by placing multiple rows of sutures. In essence, the underlying framework of the abdomen was reshaped.

Skin and fat were then pulled downward, and the excess skin (which contained her stretch marks) was removed. The umbilicus (belly button) was epositioned, and all incisions were then carefully closed with sutures placed beneath the skin.
"No amount of sit-ups or crunches will make a stomach flat if the muscles have been severely weakened during pregnancy or cut during a C-section," Dr. Levens notes.

Maria says she's thrilled with the results: "My tummy is super flat...it's awesome! Everyone notices because before, I always wore baggy clothes. Now everything is fitted and tucked in. I can even wear a bikini. My husband and I are both thoroughly pleased. I feel more confident at work and generally like a new person."
